Levels of food security is impacted by war and conflicts. This is evident by the Israel and Palestine conflicts as the FAO warned that fishing activities in Gaza had been paralysed and added that recovery in the agriculture sector will require significant long term assistance.
- The recent fighting has resulted in substantial damage to Gaza’s 17,000 hectares of cropland as well as much of its agriculture infrastructure this includes irrigation systems as well as fishing boats. This means that Gaza will need to import its food which will be more expensive compared to growing the crops in Gaza.
- According to the World Food Programme (WFP) Gaza has lost half its population of Poultry birds this is either due to direct hits on their shelter or lack of water. This shows that Gaza is vulnerable to food insecurity.
